Parenthood, adoption

The notary has numerous tasks when it comes to parent-child relationships. Notarial custody declarations can ensure that unmarried parents share the custody of their children. The acknowledgement of paternity and the corresponding consents can be declared before a notary. The notary records the applications from the would-be adoptive parents and the respective declarations of consent so that the family court can grant the adoption accordingly. Through this procedure, the adopted child is granted the status of a legitimate child and, thus, acquires all the corresponding rights and commitments vis-à-vis his/her adoptive parents. In such cases, it is also the task of the notary to instruct all those concerned of the far-reaching legal consequences of their declarations.
